The South Shetland Islands are a fragment of the Antarctic Peninsula Mesozoic to Cenozoic magmatic arc that lies above a continental basement Smellieetal. The values of eNd t = 55 Ma range between6.52 and6.72. The Isotopic and Geochemistry data suggest that the rocks were generated from partial melting of lithospheric mantle in an island arc. The cause of eustatic changes has been widely debated e.g., Moucha et al., 2008.Global mean sea level GMSL is controlled by fluctuations in either the ocean basin size or the volume of water in the ocean e.g., Miller et al., 2005a, whereas relative sea level RSL is described by changes in accommodation space due to changes in 1 GMSL and/or 2 subsidence and/or uplift Posamentier. The South Beaches are the most extensive; extending 12 km along the coast and up to almost 0.9 km in width, these are the largest in the South Shetland Islands Thomson and López-Martínez 1996. SMELLIE British Antarctic Survey, Natural Environment Research Council, High Cross, Madingley Road, Cambridge. The rapid warming of the Arctic may affect the stability of coastal geomorphological systems. Prograded sequences of wave-built deposits, so-called beach-ridge systems, preserve a proxy record of the long-term variability in the drivers of coastal evolution. Information on relative sea level RSL, climate forcing and sediment supply can be reconstructed from these archives.
